While Portfast addressed the issue of individual switch ports, it became evident that there was room for improvement in the convergence of uplinks between switches. In the early 2000s, Cisco introduced Uplinkfast, another enhancement to STP. Uplinkfast focused on accelerating the convergence of network uplinks by enabling faster port transitions when uplinks went down or came back online.
